HISTORICAL PLAQUES TO BE OFFICIALLY OPENED

The history of our coastline from Burnett Heads to Elliott Heads will be “brought to life” by Historical Plaques commissioned by the Rotary Club of Bargara and funded by a Queensland Government Q150 Grant.

The Plaques are to be Officially Opened by Bundaberg Regional Council Deputy Mayor Cr Tony Ricciardi on Saturday 28 November.

Cr Ricciardi said these plaques were a wonderful way to bring history to life. “I would like to congratulate the Rotary Club of Bargara on this excellent project. What a great way to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Queensland, by highlighting significant historical events of the various areas along our coastline from Elliott Heads to Burnett Heads” Cr Ricciardi said.

The Queensland Government provided $8,500 to fund the project through a Q150 Grant.  Members of the Rotary Club of Bargara also worked tirelessly on the project, with valuable advice coming from Len Lemura from the Rotary Club of Bundaberg East, Bundaberg Regional Council staff including Charlie Murray, Michael Johnson and Geordie Lascelles, who helped in locating the sites; and Sue Gammon from Bundaberg Library Service,  who did a lot of historical research.

“These 9 plaques are a wonderful way to bring our history alive – not only for residents – but for the many tourists who visit.  And the places were the plaques are situated are certainly rich in history” Cr Ricciardi said.

The plaques are situated at Burnett Heads, Neilsen Park, Schuhkraft Park, Bargara, The Basin, Innes Park, Elliot Heads, The Hummock, and Moore Park

“They will be a wonderful reminder of our past for generations to come; and I congratulate everyone involved” Cr Ricciardi said.
